Problem networking with Windows XP Home

Hi,

Let me first tell you my setup.

I have 10 PCs plus one Compaq Proliant Server. The server is running Windows
NT 4.0. 7 of the PCs are running Windows 98 SE. The other 3 are running
Windows XP Home Edition. The 98 SE machines are all connect flawlessly to the
network, sharing files and printers and internet connection (ADSL through a
router modem). Each are assigned static IP addresses with the DNS provided by
the ISP. 2 of the XP machines also connect to the network (internet
connection is automatically available on startup, but to access the shares on
the network, the user would need to key in their user name and password for
the network). These two machines have IP address and DNS set automatically.
My problem is the 3rd XP machine. I configured it in exactly the same manner
as the other two but for some reason it can only get the internet connection
but not to the network. If I assign it a static IP address (configured in the
server) and DNS (given by the ISP), it can connect to the network but no
internet connection. I'm at my wit's end. Please help.

P.s. also for the XP machines which network ok, is there a way for them to
login to the network during startup (during the initial login process)
without having to re-login again when I want to access the shares on the
server? Thanks again.

Kalkamel,

Please start by providing IPConfigurations for several of your computers, one
for the problems computer, and for several of the working computers, for
comparison.

You can define a default login account on Windows XP. But the account used has
to match one provided on the server. It sounds to me like you're logging in to
the XP computers with one account, and then entering a second account for server
access. Why not provide the right account on the server?
