In REGEDIT go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Session Manager

Locate the branch
PendingFileRenameOperations

Back up this branch.

Delete the contents with the exception of the "Default" data value.

Restart the computer

It should install fine now.

I'm getting the same error in Windows 2000, except that there's
nothing in that registry key other than the default value - which says
(value not set). Now what?
