Jeff Eilders

I am getting the following stop error:

Stop 0x000000f4 (0x00000003, 0x8442ad90, 0x8442aedc, 0x81240330)

I am upgrading from a XP PRO box to Vista Business

It is a Tecra a9 with 2 mg of RAM

Anyone know what is causing this error message?

Thanks

I had a problem on an XP PC when - I think - I was installing SP2. I know
the error was: Stop 0x000000f4 (0x00000003, but can't recall the mem
locations beyond that.
It was a RAM memory mis-match fault in my case. I had installed 1gig
(2x512mb) of mis-matched RAM in that one was PC2700 and the other PC2100 -
it worked OK with XP SP1, but the SP2 didn't like it.

Don't know if you have a similar problem / setup but if you can get your
hands on some new RAM it might be worth trying.

I am using the original RAM that came in the laptop. The laptop is only 5
months old.

You should be posting in one of the Vista groups as it is Vista you are
having issues with.

It was posted to a Vista group and given the problem the OP was probably
correct to post to the XP group too imo.

Didn't know exactly where to post it too. It could be an XP problem or a
Vista problem I won't know that until I get a little help. Are you going to
go to the Vista group and answer the question?

Since the laptop is only 5 months old, be sure to give the mfg's support
folks a shot at diagnosing it. Just because memory works with XP does not
mean it will always work with Vista. Vista is less tolerant of hardware
issues than XP. Also, I take it you are installing with a retail Vista
upgrade edition. If so, I believe that you are entitled to installation
support from MS. The phone numbers should be in the retail box. At a guess
I would say there may be a BIOS update on the mfg's website you need.
