Can anyone help? I am having a problem installing two software programmes, everytime I try to install I get this message

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose "Close" to terminate the application.

this is coming on with both software programmes even though one of them has been installed on this pc previously with no problems, I have tried to install another program, a game and that installed with no problems but these two won't install and I don't know why as I haven't altered anything on my pc which could be causing it, can anyone help? how could I resolve this without having someone out to rectify it?
Thanks.

You are given another option on that same screen "ignore" click that and continue the install. {:~)

It would help if you could tell us what programs and their versions of what
your trying to install.

I have tried that and the programmes don't do anything, they still won't install.

I don't know the versions of the programmes, one is The BMA Family Health Encylopaedia and the other is one I had given from PC Genius magazine called At The Circus, it's a childrens activity program, the second one I have had on my pc working ok, then after a few times this message kept coming up so I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling it but the same message kept coming up where previousley it had worked fine.
