problem importing from act 2000

bob andrews

I want to import data from ACT 2000 and use OutLook 2002
as my contact manager program. I created a custom form to
mirror the data that I have in ACT 2000. I saved this form
as default. If I am entering a new contact from scratch,
all is OK, the new custom form appears. However, if I try
to import information from ACT 2000 into Outlook 2002 -
regardless of how I may try to "map" info - it will still
only import into the default "contact" form for Outlook.
Is there a way to fix this? If not, does Outlook 2003
have that capability. Thanks in advance for your help.

You can not "import" via the standard "import/export" wizard to a folder
using a "custom form". You need a 3rd party product to do that vis-a-vis Act
to Outlook directly. There are a variety of 3rd party products available
that claim to do that and depending on your requirements - may answer your
rqmt's but I suggest you eval any potential solution first (as I suggest for
our own products as well)

Check http://www.slipstick.com for items related to this or do a google
search - you will find products that identify themselves as Act -> Outlook
migrators. We've decided to hold back on our own Act-->Outlook migration
solution for all "item" types until "we work around" some "fundamental
issues" related to "generic Outlook custom forms/custom fields issues" -
something which our customers who have used Act-Outlook migration tools have
also warned us about and which we've experienced directly unrelated to this
question in terms of "custom forms/fields" (for very simple reqm'ts - they
all work great from the feedback we've rec'd - so don't be put off by this
caution - just test what you need to do and you may find that "whatever
product you're looking at" works for you - however once you go out of the
"simplistic - stock solution" - it may not be something that works but I
would suggest you "contact" the vendor first "before deciding that to be the
case" - you may be pleasantly surprised that they may have a solution or
"fix" for your specific reqm't).
