Problem importing from access

Hi,

I am trying to import a query into excel. I able to import the data, but the
total column that imports is adding the two preceeding columns as chracters
rather than as numbers.

So for example, 13+1 should equal 14, but instead it is importing as 131.

Does anyone know why this is, and can help? If I need to provide further
information then let me know

This is not an excel issue. This is an access issue. The table that the
access query is pulling the data from has those two columns labled as text.
If you change the data type to number in each table, you should be able to
add the numbers together once you export.

Pull up the table in design mode. Find the field that you need to change
and click in the data type column to activate the drop down. Select number
and save.

You can also have the query add the two columns togther prior to exporting.
All you would need to do is pull up the query in design mode, right click in
the first available blank column, select build. The builder should default
with the available fields from the query located in the center box. Double
click on the first field that you want to add. Then select the + sign and
double cilck on the second filed.

Either way should allow you to add the two fields together.
