Problem getting to website address

B

Ben

Help please!

I have Win2k Server running as PDC. Active Director, DNS all working
OK. Domain name is mysite.org.uk. Server names is
server.mysite.org.uk.

I have a website at www.mysite.org.uk and my POP3 mail was being
collected by Outlook Express from mail.mysite.org.uk

Since getting the server up and running, the system is no longer
looking externally for either www.mysite.org.uk or mail.mysite.org.uk.
I still (for now) want to use OE to collect mail.

I presume I need to set up something within the Forward Zones of the
DNS on the server? Do I need some manual entry for each of "www." and
"mail."?

If that is right, what exactly do I set up and how?

Many thanks

Ben

Yes - because your server thinks it's responsible for mysite.org.uk, you
need each, pointing at the correct public IP addresses.

You already answered your own question, really - I just confirmed that
you're right. This is one of the reasons it's often recommended to use a
different AD domain name (such as internal.mysite.org.uk or
mysite.org.local) from your public one. Not too huge a problem, but
sometimes an annoyance.

Use the DNS management console, open the mysite.org.uk forward lookup zone,
right click select new host name it www and give it the IP address for the
website. Repeat the steps for another host named mail.
