I have a new Vista machine and in it is the hard drive from my old XP Home
based machine (which died). I am trying to copy the files from the old XP
drive (J: in my Vista machine) to the C: drive in the Vista machine.

I have copied some of the files successfully but for many of the files in
the old XP My Documents folder I'm getting access denied. it claims I don't
have authroity to perform the action.

The old XP machine had a user AAA and the new Vista machine has a user of
BBB, if that makes a difference.

I want to get the files off of the J: drive so that I can reformat it to get
rid of the XP system that is on it then I can use it in Vista.

Can anyone advise me how to get the files copied?

Hello tonyr,

You have to take over the ownership from the disk/folder/files. Check the
security tab from the properties, who has rights to the old disk.
