Problem configuring Outlook 2007 to access Exchange server

Paula

We're moving to an exchange server from POP. I've set up my outlook client
to access the exchange server but when I try to do the "check name" I get
"The action cannot be completed. The connection to Microsoft Exchange is
unavailable. Outlook must be online or connected to complete this action".
I am trying to do this over a wireless connection to a remote server. I've
also tried it unsuccessfully on a dial-up link. I did increase the timeout
to 60 sec but that didn't help.
Our administrator has told us to set up our exchange settings to "connect to
Microsoft Exchange using HTTP" (under Microsoft Exchange--Connection). Under
the Exchange Proxy setting he has the name of the mail server in the https://
field, using Basic Authentication in the proxy authentication settings.
I've tried going to NTML authentication with no luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thank you
Paula

Use basic authentication.
Can you ping the server name? If it's not in DNS you'll need to use Hosts
file. (you may want to add it to hosts to see if it helps.)
