problem cd drive

XP sees the cd drive, but when a disk is inserted, the
light flashes for a few seconds, but no contents are
seen. If I remove the cd drive from device manager, and
add it back, it works for one disk, and then goes back to
not recognising any contents.

Can anyone suggest fixes or assit in any way? Please?

Insert the disc and reboot your system. I have seen this
posted numerous times for xp and this appears to work
fairly consistently...after that, if it works ok..always
leave a disc in the drive.
