Problem Capturing video

While trying to capture DV using MovieMaker, I continually get an "Unknown
Error" message. I've confirmed that the camera is on, connected, etc. I'm
using a Firewire connection on a Toshiba Satellite notebook. I have called
Canon (camcorder manufacturer) and Toshiba for help. Neither have been able
to assist me.
I also tried Intervideo WinDVDCreator, but also got a problem capturing
video on that.
Not sure what to do except buy a 3rd Party software like Pinnacle?
Suggestions please....

One possiblity is some 3rd party package interfering with the DShow filters
used by both MM and WinDVDCreator.

Use the Tools->Options command, then under the "Compatiblity" tab uncheck
all the 3rd party filters.

BTW this option is only availble in MM 2.1 / XP SP2

I tried your suggestion, but still nothing. Seems lots of people having the
same problem with Firewire connections and the cameras are all different, so
not just one manufacturer has issues.

What about uninstalling WMM and then reinstalling it? I tried to download Xp
SP2 again, but the handy-dandy update software said I already had it.....
