Problem accessing the net

M

Murph

Hey guys, I just installed Vista build 5308 and it's working great so far
except for one thing. I can see the network and other computers but I cant
get on the web.

I checked the IP's and everything looks good, I can even ping the router.
Other PC's connect fine.

DNS works fine as i can ping an outside address (msn.com) and it resolves.

I tried disabling the firewall, and defender, and also disabled IP6 in the
adapter's setting.

I've tried a 3com NIC and an Intel NIC, with the same results (no problem
access local resources but can't get to the outside)

Anyone have a similar problem or have any ideas for me please?

Make sure that your router actually allows your computer through - I solved
mine out because my wireless MAC wasn't set on my router.

I'm not doing any kind of MAC filtering on my router and this same machine
with XP was able to get out fine.

I've rebuilt this box twice already and have the same problem both time.

it's a no go. i've tried that already.
Can you give me 1 or 2 sites that you can get to? i can't seem to get to
any.

Have you got a DNS Server within Windows Server 2003 on the same network, or
does it go through a router then straight to the Internet? If you have a
server, that will need configuring. However if you have a router by
standard, ensure that your DNS settings are correct and going through your
ISP.

Just a router, no DNS server.

DNS settings are correct as i can ping and resolve names (Ping msn.com =
ipaddress) with no problem.

i've tried all these sites with no luck either.
thanks for replying back.

this is very frustrating! I just want to thank everyone early for their
posts!!!!!!!
thanks

any other ideas? could there be something security related i'm over
looking? would IPv6 have anything to do with it? i tried disabling it, but
still won't work.

Andre, do you think this issue is related to your ISP? i'm using Verizon
DSL and I think they have something to do with it.

I'm experiencing the same issue. My network adapter is fine, I can resolve,
ping, tracert, but can't get out using http or ftp.

My router is a d-link dgl-4300

OK, I can successfully get to the web if I connect directly to my dsl modem
and bypass my router. If anyone knows about a firmware upgrade or something
that would resolve this issue, please let me know.
