probem with opening control panal in windowsxp operating system

I had a problem with my computer recently and I had to reinstal windowsxp
with the help of an expert from the computer manufacturer. Unfortunately, I
installed , on my own, from a resource cd which was shipped to me by the
manufacturer at the time of purchasing, an expired version of norton
antivirus which plagued my pc with problem.To rectify the problem, I used my
windowsxp installation cd twice and tried to repair the operating system. It
helped to some extent but it is not perfect. I downloaded the latest version
of Norton antivirus. I do not know if that is the problem, I begun to have a
problem. Now I decided to delete Norton antivirus and reinstal antivirus from
symaptico ( my Internet service provider). So when I try to open control
panal to get to ADD and Remove, The control panal does not open. Every time I
clicked on start button and then control panal, It trys to open and then shut
and end up on desk top. The problem is persisiting and I do not know what
else to do. Do you have any suggustion?

Sounds like you may not have applied XP's SP2 and all the security
updates. You should always do that before installing any other
applications like Norton. It's quite possible that Norton requires the
latest patches and updates from Microsoft to work properly.

What I would do....is re-install XP from scratch. When booting from
the CD choose to remove the partition and install a fresh new copy of
XP. First of course backup any files you may want to save.

Then after the successful re-installation, install XP's SP2. If you
already have SP2 slipstreamed into your install disk then don't
re-install SP2. After that, go online and download all the critical
updates BEFORE installing any other software. After all the updates
are installed, reboot and install Norton and then get their updated
virus definition files. Once you have done that, you should be able to
install your other applications and access control panel with no
problems.

Start > Run > Type "appwiz.cpl" (Without quotes) > Enter

This is to open Add/Remove. I dont know the solution for other problems. The
best way is ReInstalll Windows.
