when i go to make a folder private the check box is
grayed out, how do i fix this thx?

On XP Home you can only make your documents and settings
private you cant make any other folders private.
(i think this is the same for XP Pro)

Is your drive formatted NTFS.....it needs to be in order
for the make folders private option to appear.

FYI Actually James, with Pro edition one can take total
control over sharing any part of the filesystem with any
desired permissions.

As James indicated, Home is permanently stuck in simple
sharing mode, and in this the user interface only has this
enabled for your account profile.
As Alex said, if you are using NFTS then you can manage
the permissions, and you may do this with the security
dialog of the folder when you are in a safe mode boot, or
using the cacls.exe utility.
