Ow, my ears hurt from your screaming (i.e., using all caps). Your
CapsLock key is stuck and yet you managed to use lowercase in the
Subject header. Uh huh.

Save a disk image of your OS partition that you will be upgrading. Then
you can quickly revert to exactly the same state before the service pack
install.

Install WinXP SP2 from free CD, Microsoft,Staples, Circuit City, Best Buy,
ect have these for free.

It's better to fix what's wrong before installing SP2.

If you want to be off the net, you can download the full
version (266MB) or get it on CD. These don't need net
access during the install. I've used the full download
on several computers with no problems.

Follow the direction that Will linked to and you should
be fine. Microsoft says you should back up your
important files. I recommend you back up everything
(always not only before service pack installs.) That way
you always have a simple fast path back to a known good
state and therefore nothing to be scared of.

SORRY FOR THE CAPS, THEY ARE STUCK.

You can unstick them by pushing the Caps Lock button again.
It works both ways.

If you are doing it through Auto Update, it will spend time downloading
the needed files (may be spread over days on dial up, and only when all
are available will it set about installing. That is the point where you
should have all programs shut down, disconnect from Internet, disable AV
and any other resident software and give the install as clean a run as
you can
