printing two pages per page margin settings

C

curious

I really hope someone can help.

I am trying to print a document, landscape, two pages per page. I have
tried all sorts of margin settings, but have a problem. I have now set
my outside and inside margins at 1 cm. The gutter is set at 1.5 cm. In
print preview it looks fine. But, when I print it is as if all the
printing has moved to the right on the page. The outside margin is
wider than what I want. The inside margin of the pages is narrower
than the inside margin of the opposite page. When the page is folded
in the center the left side and the right side are uneven. It looks
like the total print has moved towards the right.
I use a Laserjet 5L printer.

Anybody any ideas? Please help.

Instead of using a gutter, try setting the Inside and Outside margins
directly, but be aware that they may be reversed (they are in "Book fold").
Also, be aware that, if "Mirror margins" is enabled, the gutter will be on
the left of odd pages and the right of even pages; if you're printing odd
pages to the left of even pages (the default with "Two pages per sheet" as
opposed to "Book fold"), then you will get the gutter in the wrong place.
And if you're *not* using "Mirror margins," then the gutter will be on the
same side of both pages, resulting in uneven margins all round.

Oh Suzanne, you're an angel for replying.
Tell me, does the program know that it is in bookfold or must I select
that format somewhere. I have in fact tried using it with no gutter.
Also, I can not use mirror when I select two per page.

I intend to print 4,1,2,3 order. The only problem is that on page 1
the margin on the left, outside, is wider than what I want. The same
goes for pg. 2 & 3. Page 2, the left margin is wide, and on page 3 the
inside margin is too wide. I am going to experiment again without the
gutter, which I have already done. And I am going to reset my
margins.
To see the effect I set both inside and outside margins at o and then,
when I click OK, it tells me that I am out of range and then fixes it.
The ouside margin is then automatically set at .51 cm and the inside
is set at 2.27 cm. Still no joy.

If you have any further advice, please let me know. And thanks again
for responding.

Suzanne, I tried it. No joy. I set the outside margin at 1.59 cm and
the inside at 3 cm, no gutter. It looks fine in print preview, but
when I print, the outside margin on page 2 is too wide, the inside a
bit on the narrow side. Page 3 the inside margin is too wide and the
outside margin a little too narrow.

I am so sorry to be a bother.
Can you think of something else?

Thanks for your patience.

For this you should be using "Book fold," which you set in the "Multiple
pages" portion of the Margins tab (same place you selected "2 pages per
sheet"). This automatically enables "Mirror margins" (be aware that Inside
and Outside will be reversed; this is a bug). To see the actual facing
pages, you'll have to view two pages in Print Preview. Make sure you have
the correct paper size selected.
