Printing Outlook Express Message

A new installation on XP SP3 on a new computer.

It seems like I remember that when I printed out a message from Outlook
Express on my old machine I got,
at the top of the page in bold letters, My name. Instead of that on the new
machine I get the identity I
am running under -- in this case 'Main.' I was running under the Main
identity on the old machine also.
On both machines I have set my name as the signature. I am the only user
and Guest Account is off.

Somewhere, somehow I must have set something on the old machine to produce
my name in bold at the top of
a printed message but I can't recall how I did it. I have tried changing
the name of Main in User Accounts but that doesn't fix it.

Anyone have any idea what I might have done on the old machine to yield my
name in bold at the top of the page?

Thank you very much.

1. Create a new named identity via File | Identities | Add new identity;
Name this identity Your Name (e.g., Jack Gillis) and configure your accounts
in it (or you can export an IAF file for each account in the Main Identity
and then Import the files into the new one).

2. Open OE to the old Main Identity and compact all folders (ALT+F+F+F; cf.
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm#compact).

3. Open OE to the new identity and import all folders from the Main
Identity.

4. After making certain that everything's as it should be in the new
identity, delete the old one (File | Identities | Manage Identities).

OE Caveats:

- Don't use Inbox or Sent Items to archive messages. Move them to local
folders created for this purpose.

- Empty Deleted Items folder daily.

- Disable Background Compacting [removed in WinXP SP2] and frequently
perform a manual compact of all OE folders while "working offline". More at
http://www.insideoe.com/files/maintain.htm

- WinXP SP2 only: Do not cancel Automatic Compacting, should it occur, and
do not attempt to close OE via Task Manager or shutdown your machine if
Automatic Compacting is taking place.

- Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It can cause
corruption (i.e., loss of messages), it provides no additional protection,
and even Symantec says it's not necessary:

<QP>
Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that
are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans
incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and
email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To
make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep
Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have
the most recent virus definitions.

YES!! I do remember doing something like that on my old machine. I will
give it a try tomorrow.

Thank you very much.

Apparently it never occured to you to ask in a group with OE in the
title, hmmmm?

Ask elsewhere

As our resident ****wit knows very well, Outlook Express is supplied as part
of Windows.

A WindowsXP general newsgroup is thus a perfect place to ask the question.
