I have some files which were maked in Corel Draw 12.
They have *.cdr extension. How do I print them on
machine where Corel Draw isn't installed ?

I don't think there is a freeware program that can view or print .cdr
files. If you can get the original supplier or someone else with
CorelDraw 12 to export the files as a bitmap or a more commonly used
vector format like .cgm that might be the best solution.

Email me if you want to try some workarounds that are not freeware but
are probably cost-free.

I know that this doesn't help with CorelDRAW 12 files, but it is
possible to import *.cdr clipart (until version 6 or 7) in Serif
DrawPlus. I also know it is registerware, but maybe it can be of any
help for others.

By the way, exporting *.cdr files to *.cgm files is not a good idea.
The best way to export them is into *.wmf files. This type of files is
very much used in graphics-programs.

With kind regards,

XnView has .cdr included in its list of readable formats, but I haven't
tested it.

I don't know of anything that can open v. 12 either. :(

FWIW. . . more apps that can import some *earlier* versions of Corel Draw:

Program: Columbus
Author: Arup
http://columbus.arup.com

Program: Zoner Draw 3
Author: Zoner
Ware: (Earlier version of $ware) (Registerware: name/ email/ country)
http://www.zoner.com/

and last time I checked XnView shows you a bitmap representation of .cdr
files.

Actually, it IS a good idea. There are quite a few bitmap editors
that handle .cgm, which is a much better file for the purpose than
..wmf. Both are metafiles containing both the vector information and a
bitmap representation of it. Corel does not export well to the bitmap
element of .wmf.

The .wmf format has been deprecated for some time. There are efforts
to replace it with .emf, but I understand that to be just as much of a
hack.

For the OP's purpose, printing, exporting to a bitmap format of choice
such as .jpg or .png is better than either, as I suggested.

If you find something, please post your result! I looked for the same capability
all over a few weeks ago and wasn't successful. The closest I found was an
earlier version of Columbus that I had previously installed (registareware if I
remember right) - but it wouldn't allow print for some reason (or export or
copy). Xnview and several others will just show you a low resolution bitmap that
is like a thumbnail for the image - not the vector data.

You can't...simple as that. cdr is propietary.
You might try downloading a trial version of CD12 ( www.corel.com ) and then
print them or convert them in Draw to a PDF for printing. Unless you are on
broadband, the download would be long.
Best bet is if you know someone with CD12, send them the files and ask them
to convert them to PDF's and send them back.
The trouble sometimes with CDR files is that the graphic can be in layers
and the font(s) used may not be on your machine...they would need to be
converted first to 'Curves' so they become an object rather than a Font in
order to display correctly. And, unless you have CD12 you'll be out of luck.

Hope that helps
