Printing delayed till computer restarted

Bought my 81-yr-old Dad a basic Dell Dimension 2400 last year and got free
Dell color photoprinter. All was working great. But now it doesn't print
e-mail or WordPerfect jobs other stuff till he turns the computer off and
then on again. When he turns the computer on, the printer spits out the
print job (usually). Any ideas? I am trying to diagnose this long distance
over the phone. He probably clicked on something that he has forgotten about
or didn't realize the consequence of. Thanks.

I would remove the printer then reboot the system with the printer plugged in
and turned on. Windows 200/XP should detect the printer and reinstall by
itself (it may ask for the driver disk).

Sometimes Windows tries to be smart if you install the printer manually
after the operating system loads it will then install it's own second copy of
the printer upon the next reboot where the printer is turned on.

Hope this helps.

John.
