Have you enabled File & Printer Sharing on the host computer? Have you
created a user account with the necessary access privileges on said host
computer?

have you figured this out? if so, let me know. i can't get my laptop to
recognize the printer on the main computer

In addition to what Bruce Chambers posted, have you contacted to printer
maker for assistance? Not a few of these printers need to have a printer
driver installed on your laptop as well.
