I have set up a wireless network and have 3 computers on it. Two are running
2000 pro and one is running xp pro. Iam unable to share the printers running
on the main unit (2000) and the unit running xp pro. After creating the setup
wizard disk 2000 was unable to open it. Can these systems share or are they
incompatible?
All versions of Windows can network with each other and share files
and printers. The default network settings on XP and 2000 are
compatible with each other. Setting the workgroup name on 2000 to the
same name that XP uses (default is MSHOME) makes networking a little
easier.
XP's Network Setup Wizard won't run on Windows 2000. However, it's
not necessary to run the Wizard on non-XP computers, in spite of what
the Wizard tells you.
Make sure that all firewalls are configured to allow access by
computers on the LAN.
My Network Places should show shared resources on the network. To
browse another computer directly, type its name in the Start | Run box
in this format:
\\computer
