Printer problems in XP

Hello

I have an XP Pro machine which has been working fine until now.......I have a network printer (on a print server) which is working for others in the office. I deleted the printer and connected to the printer again. It asks if you would like to download the drivers from the print server. You select yes but it then asks for the location of the drivers. I downloaded the drivers (for an HP Laserjet 4100n) and stored them locally. I selected the folder the drivers for XP are in and it installs the drivers. However when you try to send a test print it says that the Operation could not be completed

I have manually removed the drivers from the registry and from the c:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\drivers\w32x86\2 folder and still it does not work. I have tried another network printer, this time an HP Laserjet 4000 and a Richo and both work fine. It seems to be just this one printer. (Others are not having the same problem). I do not want to rebuild the machine as it will takes days to rebuild if it is something simple

If anyone can make any suggestions I would appreciate it very much

A techie in need of some help
