Printer problem

Dennis McMahon

After two years of problem free printing with my lexmark X63, It now takes 3
minutes for the printer to start after the print command has been activated.
I've uninstalled, installed, ensured enough hard disk space is avail,
de-fragged, all to no avail. I suspect there is a glitch in the XP
programme. The XP printer help menu hasn't solved the problem and I am
tempted to chuck the printer and install a new one but if it's a problem in
the computer that won't help. I'm new to computers other than e-mail etc.
Can anyone help? Thanks, Dennis

It's due in a part to a change in the print routine in XP as well as an
issue with drivers for your printer.

Go to the following link and be sure you have the latest XP driver for your
printer:

I can't say this will resolve the issue, I have a much newer HP printer than
the Lexmark X63 and I've had the issue as well. I only mention my printer
to point out, this is not manufacturer specific, it happens across the
board. Some start faster than others but I definitely noticed the
difference. It's possible with Service Pack 2 is released, this will
improve a bit, not a lot but somewhat.

Something else you might try:
Open Control Panel, open Printers and open the printers and faxes apple,
select your printer, right click, select properties, go to the Advanced tab
and be sure "Start Printing Immediately" is selected.

Something I just tested. Instead of the Start Printing Immediately option,
if you select Print Directly to the Printer, it seems to start faster. This
does have a drawback in that when you click Print, a dialog box will open,
you will have to select your printer and then click the print button in this
dialog box. While there's an extra step, it does seem to start printing
much faster.
