Printer choice not retained when closing document

I am having an issue where the printer chosen to print a document is no
longer retained when the document is closed. Upon opening the doc again, it
reverts to the default printer.

This is haapen on a Windows 2003 network with the printers being shared from
the server. I tried posting in the Win2003 forums a few weeks back but no
response.

It is not possible to save the printer selection with a document. As long as
Word is open, however, the printer selected for a given document will remain
the active printer for all documents until another selection is made.

As Suzanne indicates printer information is not saved with the document,
however it is possible to create macros that will direct the print output to
any printer, and if you know that a particular printer will always be used
for documents created from a particular template you can intercept the print
command in that template to print to the required printer. Otherwise add a
printers toolbar to normal.dot and populate it with commands to print to
