Print Screen capture save to file?

Hello;
I am looking for a screen capture program to take screen shots of a game,
with the properties;
- able to use the Print Screen button, since the game does not pass many
keys along to programs running in the background (ie ctrl or alt key
combinations do not work)
- automatically saves screen shots to file in a lossless format (even if
just bmp)
- does not pop up a message; the DirectX game does not like being
minimized

Hardcopy (donationware, I think) works, though is a little more elabourate
than I need
http://www.hardcopy.de/hardcopy/english/index.htm

Gadwin PrintScreen http://www.gadwin.com/printscreen/
and
PrintKey 2000 http://www.webtree.ca/newlife/printkey_info.htm

both pop up temporary messages, and neither work when the game is loaded.
The timed function of PrintKey works (as does IfranView's), though I
didn't try it long enough to see if the popup would interfere with the
game (it did not minimize it, at least).

Any suggestions on other (preferably small) screen capture programs?

Alternatively, a program that can monitor the clipboard and automatically
save the contents to file would work, as well.

HoverSnap is the answer, I think.

Features:
· You can set up the capture folder / filename and format.
· You can reduce the capture size.
· Auto-generate filename option will add the time stamp (date/time) to your
filename in order to be able to take several captures without having to
change the filename.
· Optional sound when capture is done.
· HoverSnap is FREE for personal use only !

You can check this one :
http://pngshot.sourceforge.net/
It's main purpose is to save to PNG the screenshots made by Windows with
the Print Screen key (and optionnally upload them to a FTP).
Maybe it will not work with all games since it does not do more than
Windows' capture system except saving the image.

I am looking for a screen capture program to take screen shots of a game,
HoverSnap is the answer, I think.

It works well, with a noticeable but short (<1 sec) impact on game
performance. For some reason the download re-directed me to a message
saying not to steal links, but to search their web page. Opening the link
in a new window started the download properly.

There is a link on the page you posted to a program called GrabClipSave,
which I checked out before trying the HoverSnap download link in a new
browser window. There is a significant 5 second or so performance drop
in-game when saving a screenshot as png (bmp/jpg might be faster), though
that may not be a problem with other systems/games.

PNG Shot also works fine, though there is a second or two freeze of the
game while it is saving the file. That isn't a problem for what I am
doing, though.

Thanks to you both (and for any additional suggestions).

This has quite good performance, with only a minor hesitation in-game
(half a second) when saving bitmaps. However, the counter re-sets
whenever the program is re-started, and I don't think I'd always remember
to move the screenshots out of the destination folder, to prevent them
from being overwritten. My usage will probably be rather intermittent, so
it would not get to be a habit.

HoverSnap adds the date and time to a base name. PNGShot has a very
flexible and configurable naming scheme, where you can specify a base name
combined with a counter and/or (all or part of) the date and/or time, in a
format you specify.
