print layout and outline view

feagin

I have Word 2002 running under XP
When I set heading-level styles 1 and 2, with normal
settings, then go into outline view and work a while
moving things around, when I come back into print layout
view, there is overlapping and blurred text, and when I
click near headings a shaded box is put around them even
though no box or shading is set in the modify style
settings of those headings.

Also, when I switch to outline view, it will not let me
delete at all some of the paragraph marks, the extra ones
I need to delete, unless I clear all formatting, which
loses too much....???

Hi Feagin,

Do you have any AutoNumbering for these headings? Or does
your text contain fields? Any graphical objects?

The gray you're seeing sounds like field shading. My best
guess, from the description, is that fields are somehow
being inserted into each other, and the document is becoming
damaged.

Just how are you "moving things around" while in Outline
view?
