print in word xp, characters overlap each other

Sometimes when users click print in Word XP, characters in document overlap
each other. OS Win XP SP1, installed Office SP3 and all patches. Can recover
doc in Application Recovery Document in Office Tools. Prints to HP Laserjet
4000.

Service Pack 2 and update your printer drivers.
 
In my case, it is the documents that lie on top of each other with a four pointed way mouse cursor. Printing with OCR, meant for editing, as some have suggested actually separates the pages but most characters are disfigured. How can I separate these documents? Please help.
