print area multiple sheets

I'm trying to print multiple areas of a large spreadsheet into logical
"chunks." In principle, this works when I go into Page Setup/Sheet/Print
Area. I input the ranges to print followed by a comma.

The problem I'm having is that I cannot get this feature to work
consistently. For some combinations this feature works as expected, but in
other cases, it seems to override my inputs. I checked to make sure that
the print area I selected was smaller than the theoretical limit for the
page settings, so that's not the trouble.

Anyone else have this trouble?
Thanks,
jay

Thanks for the info in general. My question has to do with understanding the
function and then trying to evaluate whether the (Page Setup/Sheet/Print
Area) feature is useful to me. If for example if I enter the following into
the window for Print Area, as follows.

$A$1:$C$11,$D$1:$F$11,$G$1:$I$11

I expect to get three separate blocks of cells printed on three separate
pages. This seems to work properly only when the three blocks of
information roughly fill a page. Depending on how I change the column
width, I can easily get the part of one of the other "blocks" to become
separated (thereby defeating the purpose), which doesn't make sense to me.
Sorry, this is a little difficult to explain.

In principle this is useful feature, but I find it "buggy" and inconsistent,
so I'm wondering if it is a bug, or whether I just don't understand what XL
is trying to accomplish with this feature.
