I bought a new Segate 160GB a couple weeks ago b/c my old har
drive(now the slave) wouldn't boot up. So I connected the new driv
as the primary, and then the old drive as the slave. I went int
BIOS and BIOS recognizes the slave drive. So when I boot up it boot
up off of the Seagate but when it goes to the windows XP page with th
status bar loading below the XP logo, it stops and reboots. I hav
noticed that there is a quick flicker of a screen right before i
goes back and reboots and it looks like a page that would come u
when the computer is infected with a virus. It is the blue scree
saying that your hard drive is being dumped... So what I have don
is I have dissconnected the slave during boot up and it starts fine
and while the comptuer is on, I connect the slave drive hoping tha
the computer would recognize the drive but it doesn't. All I want t
do is get the files off of the drive, but if the system won't boot u
with the slave connected how can I do it?
HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Looks like the old drive is quite dead and that is why it wouldnt
boot and that is why XP reboots when its connected as slave too.

You can stop it rebooting that but its likely not worth it because you
wont be able to see the drive contents if you stop it rebooting.

What happens if you put the old drive on the second
ribbon cable in place of the optical drives temporarily ?
