Primary or Secondary

Greetings . . .

What's the best primary/secondary IDE arrangement for the following setup:
-- DVD-ROM drive (soon to be DVD+-RW)
-- CD-RW
--100 GB hard disk (existing)
--160 GB hard disk (now adding)

The 100GB is set as the master on the primary. Should I install the new
drive as the slave on the primary? Or move it to the secondary IDE
controller? If I move it, will it need to be jumpered as a slave or master?

The primary use for the second/new hard drive will be for video capture (for
video editing) and data backup.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Place both harddrives on the primary IDE channel. Place the CD and DVD both
on the secondary IDE. This will give you maximum transfer rates on your
harddrives.

But that means having the 2 burners on the same chaneel which isn't exactly
ideal either ... just IMHO

I don't know if this helps/matters, but of the four . . . the primary hard
drive and CD-RW drive will probably receive the most usage. Would it be
better to have both as the master on the primary and secondary IDE, or both
as master/slave on the primary in this scenario?

If your hard drives are on the same channel, that will give you the
maximum transfer rate *to what* ?

If you have the hard drives on separate channels, that will allow you to
transfer files quickly from one drive to another. Or access both
drives simultaneously faster than if they were sharing a channel.

I would setup the 100g as pri master, DVD as pri slave
160g as sec master and CD as sec slave.

Backup will be fastest this way. Use good quality 80 conductor cable of course.
