previous working Excel file cannot longer be opened

A spreadsheet (96kb *.xls file-using Microsoft Works 6) was previously
working and saved in drive A. It was succesful retrieved several times but
since the last time it was saved, it cannot be opened any longer. @ the time
that I tried to open it the system frozen. I tried to repair the file using
the Windows inbox repair tool. Now, I get the message that the file was
created with an unknown application. A *.bak file was created by the repair
application. How the file can be restored?. Thanks.
 
Hi
NEVER open a file directly from a floppy disc. This could lead to
corrupted files. Your file is probably lost
