Preview pane slow to.......

When I highlight a different message in the inbox the
preview pane takes 4-5 seconds to display the contents of
the message.

It also takes that long to open up any of the messages in
the inbox.

You need to post a bit more info here like;
-version of Outlook
-location of the messages (local, networkshare or Exchange server)
-size of mailbox
-number of messages in the folder you are displaying
-computer and network specs

All those kind of things are variables that (one individually or several
together) can be the cause of the problem

What version? If 2002 try Tools>Options>Other and uncheck "Enable Instant
Mes..."
