Preventing Spyware

R

Robert Brugman

Hello fellow Windows Users,
I was wondering if there is a way to prevent software from being installed
automatically by Internet Explorer. I have a problem with little pieces of
software being automatically installed, which leads to bigger programs being
automatically downloaded. It's a never-ending removal process. I have
Spybot Search and Destroy installed, and it removes everything, but I would
like to know if there are any methods of preventing the
spyware/trackers/toolbars in the first place.

Thanks,
Robert

Tools > Internet Options > Security > Custom Level is where the security
settings are. Check out the Active X and Scripting Settings at the
beginning and end of the list. You could try setting the first Active X
setting to prompt, and the next two to disable, and the last one to prompt,
too.

For the Scripting, set the first one to prompt or enable, the second one to
disable, and the last one to prompt.

This will give you a few dialogue boxes appearing while your surfing. I say
no 90% of the time to these dialogue boxes asking to download stuff, and it
never has any negative effects.

Robert;
Open IE/Tools/Internet Options/Advanced tab/scroll down to:
Enable Install On Demand (Internet Explorer)
Specifies to automatically download and install Internet Explorer components if
a Web page needs them in order to display the page properly or perform a
particular task.
 Enable Install On Demand (Other)
Specifies to automatically download and install Web components if a Web page
needs them in order to display the page properly or perform a particular task.

Make sure both of these are NOT checked!!!
