Preventing HTML graphics from automatically loading in preview pane

I'm wondering if anyone knows how to prevent outlook from
automatically loading images in the preview pane.

A lot of spammer's deliberately include html graphics in
their messages. The URL for a particular image in the
message is unique to the user it is sent to. When outlook
displays such an image in the preview pane, it is
essentially telling the spammer "Hey there spammer, here's
a confirmation that I, <insert your e-mail address here>
got your junk mail." Such confirmations tend to increase
the quantity of junk mail a user receives.

Even webmail clients such as Yahoo have a feature to block
HTML graphics from being automatically loaded, thus
allowing the user to get a first glance at a message, and
to then decide if they wish to load it's accompanying
graphics.

Please e-mail replies to hkatirai @ hotmail.com.

Thanks.

Hi,
I see two options...
1. Increase Junk Mail Folder security settings... so your
junk goes into junk folder
2. Tools, Options, "Other" tab, Preview Pane Options,
Uncheck the box "Automatically mark msgs as read" OR set
the time delay for longer, so that you have time to delete
the junk before it is "marked as read"

Good luck,

There is nothing in the Outlook client (98 - 2002) that will block external
content. If you need this feature, you would have to go third party
(chilton preview pane) or write a macro that converts the message. Outlook
2003 (currently in beta) will address this for e-mail messages.
