Prevent PDA from powering off

Our application uses an SQL CE 2 database to store it's data.
It performs a database compact and repair operation periodically
in order to retrieve unused space and to prevent data corruption
(well corruption occurs anyway but at least we have to try!)

The database is stored on a compact flash card (please
don't ask me why).

Well, Microsoft has managed to shoot it's foot again. According to this
article - http://www.pocketpcthoughts.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=27614 -
handles of files on storage cards are invalidated when the pda powers off.
This is not the case in PPC 2002 where the handles are retrieved after a
while.

Sometimes, during a compact & repair operation - especially when the database
file is quite big - a PDA will turn off and when turned on again the
operation will
fail.

What I am looking for is a way to keep the device turned on while the
operation
is executed.

Any Ideas?
