I just this moment managed to locate the password protection within the
program of concern. In case you formed the (possibly true) opinion that I am
a total idiot, my previous ferreting about in the layers of options and
reading a non-searchable help file missed this critical information.

So, thank you for your response. fortunately, my reason for the help request
no longer exists.
