How do I set up an alert prompt for the user in this
certain situation? When the user attempts to enter a
record in a form and the info for that field is not
entered into the underlying table, the user is prompted
with a message that the record must be entered into the
underlying table. Is this understandable?

Frankly, I'm not sure what you mean.
The user attempts to "enter a record in a form."
Do you mean "navigate to an existing form"?
or "add a new record".
"info for that field is not entered into the underlying table"
Which field?
"is not entered" -
does this mean it does not already exist?
or that the user hasn't entered it?
"underlying table"
is this table the recordsource for the form?
or some other table?

Once it's clearer what your situation is, it will be easier to advise you
what to do...
