Prevent Editing of Inserted Pictures

Hi:

I have a few WORD 2000 documents into which I have
inserted .BMP images as pictures (I used Insert Picture
from File). Is there a way to prevent someone from
editing the pictures (some of the pictures have
hyperlinks)? Editing associated text is alright so I
would prefer not to set the document to Read Only or to
protect the entire document. Everything I have read from
Help discusses password protecting the entire document. I
did find a discussion of protecting a field but I am not
sure that the inserted picture is considered a field. I
tried field protecting but cannot get it to do what I
want.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi, Jerry,

Sorry, that's not possible in Word 2000 or 2002. It can be done in
Word 2003 (that is, you can protect any arbitrary part of a document).
But if you send that document to someone who has an earlier version of
Word than 2003, for them the whole document will be locked. The other
person would have to have Word 2003 in order to edit the unprotected
area.

Hi Jay:

Thanks for your response. I guess I will take the stance
that if a person edits a picture then it is his problem.
