Does anyone know of a working link for a free version of PGP that works on
Windows XP? Every link I found on Google EITHER
- is incompatible with Windows XP or
- leads to a link to download the time-limited trial version

Phil Zimmermann's site has some useful information regarding PGP, and places
it can be obtained.

I personally use GnuPG under XP without a problem. I use the Enigmail
extension in thunderbird, which allows me to access the authentication and
encryption features provided by GnuPG.

GnuPG is the GNU project's complete and free implementation of the OpenPGP
standard as defined by RFC2440 . GnuPG allows to encrypt and sign your data
and communcation, features a versatile key managment system as well as access
modules for all kind of public key directories. GnuPG, also known as GPG, is a
command line tool with features for easy integration with other applications.
GPGShell is a graphical frontend to GnuPG for key management, encryption and
signing. [From the GnuPG site]

For further information, refer to the links below.

GnuPG homepage - http://www.gnupg.org/
GPGShell homepage - http://www.jumaros.de/rsoft/index.html

Hope this helps.

The version I linked is the CKT build by Imad, last one with PGPDisk
included and WinXp compatible (as far as I know): it's no more
available, as Imad's PGP page (http://www.ipgpp.com/) is now closed.

Kindly regards.

Hi Henry,

I suspect PGPDisk is bundled Trialware and expires when the trial period
ends.

http://web.archive.org/web/20050205214358/http://www.pgpi.org/products/pgpdisk/

"As of version 6.5, PGPdisk is not longer included with the freeware
versions. If you want PGPdisk 6.5 or later, you are required to buy one
of the commercial versions."

Program: PGPdisk (v 6.02i)
Author: PGP Corporation (Phil Zimmermann (original author))
W: LFW
Ware: v 6.02i (included with PGPfreeware 6.0.2i)

Not trialware.
I installed it on 22/12/2005 and still works perfectly.
I think this is because CKT is not an official release, but a modified
one using available source code, or (as it's a beta) previous than 6.5
final released by pgpi.org.
Not sure anyway.

Kindly regards.

Thanks Henry. Nice to hear good news about an app (for a change). ;)

I believe that you and Susan are mixing apples and oranges. I suspect
that she was referring to the current version of PGP 9.x, which will
indeed revert to freeware after 30 days, rendering PGP disk unusable.
You are referring to Imad Faiad's CKT builds that were - as you
correctly surmized - created from available source code. The CKT
builds are fully functional, including PGP disk, increased key sizes
and additional embellishments.
Hope that clarifys.
