Preserve folder date

R

Richard C.

Hi,

I'm trying to unzip a file with subfolders in it. The
subfolders have dates modified that I'd like to keep -
pretty much like I'd like to keep the dates modified for
the files themselves. But the subfolder dates keep
changing to the current time when they are unzipped. Is
there anything I can do to keep the date modified intact?
Is this a feature only in NTFS? I also notice this when
moving folders between NTFS drives. I recall Windows 98
never have this problem...

I can't comment on which way is better (i.e. whether to
preserve the folder date or not), but I'd like to see
options for doing both. All I want is to keep the folder
date but as simple sounding as it is I'm at my wits end
trying to accomplish it.

Any help will be appreciated.

Hi Richard,

An annoying "feature" of WindowsXP - nothing you can do to change it besides
trying a different zip utility.

I finally figured out that piece of cr*p software known as
win zip actually only store folders as path attributes to
the files it is zipping, i.e., it will never add an empty
folder to a zip file. The workaround is use a different
archiver utility that actually stores folder information.

Thanks for you suggestion.
