Preserve Excel formula entry

When I type an arithmetic formula into a cell, excel automatically condenses
it. For instance, =3/27 becomes =.1111111. I am not referring to the
displayed value, but the actual entry in the cell. How can I turn this
"feature" off? It is important, because when I return to the sheet months
later, the full formula helps me to remember how I decided to calculate the
result.

Hi

odd, in my version (2003), when i click on the cell and look at the formula
bar i see =3/27 and the cell displays 0.111111, do you actually see
=.1111111 in the formula bar?

Julie,
in 202 sp3, it changes in the formula bar. It is disconcerting, because I
cannot check that I entered what I meant to quickly. There must be a way to
disable this. I checked calculation and auto correct dialogs, but saw
nothing.
Thanks

Hi

still odder, i've got 2002 sp3 also and it doesn't change in my formula bar
here either ..
i'm typing =3/27 into a cell in a new workbook and pressing enter, the cell
shows 0.111111 but the formula bar still displays =3/27
i've had a look through all the option settings and can't see anything
either - hopefully, someone else will have an idea.

I may have found why it happened. I am in the habit of activating the
formala bar by hiting the "+" key on the ten-key pad, so that my hand
doesn't leave the ten-key. I did not think to mention that when I posted
before, because the + goes away. If I use the =, the formula stays as-is
so....
+3500*3/27/30
becomes
=3500*0.111111111111111/30

Wheras
=3500*3/27/30
stays that way.

Does anyone no how to keep the 1st instance from hapenning? I am used to
using the + key, and prefer it.
