Presentation cannot be opened ... read-only embedded (restricted) fonts

Many Powerpoint Presentations I try to open give me a warning:
"This presentation cannot be opened because it contains one or more
read-only embedded (restricted) fonts. To edit the presentation you must
remove the restricted fonts, or you can open the presentation as read-only.
Read-only embedded fonts included in this presentation:
Arial Black

[Remove Restricted Fonts] [Open Read-Only]

I can see maybe if someone had included some very proprietary odd-ball font
that I would get this message, but Arial Black? Hasn't this been included
with every copy of Windows since Windows 3.0?

What is causing this message? Arial Black is listed under c:\windows\fonts
as a true type font.
(I can open the file - just need info on this message)

Thanks,
Mich

No, and if memory serves, it still isn't included with Windows. It's part of
most Office versions though.

But there's a bug in PPT that gets triggered when Arial Black is embedded. If
the target system doesn't also have Arial Black Italic, PPT acts as though
Arial Black is missing.

Unfortunately, Arial Black Italic is nowhere near as common as Arial Black.

I found and copied Arial Black Italic from my old PC, and this seems to have
fixed the problem!

Thanks!
Mich

Thanks - I've been grappling with this same problem. Two questions - first,
where can I get that font, and second, if one chooses "remove restricted
fonts", what does PPT do? just replace the affected text with some other font?

Hi Steve,

I've found the font on an old machine, and it has indeed fixed the problem.
Are there any other fonts that cause this issue, do you know?
