Preparing to send/receive (can't receive or send mail)

I get this message in the bottom right corner of my outlook (2003, on xp). i
can view the details, but it simply says 'processing' for bothin sending and
receiving. i can cancel the tasks, and my outlook seems to work fine
(calendar, contacts, tasks etc.). i've tried taking my new mail out of the
outbox, to drafts, and tried sending mail one by one. i can't receive and
send my e-mails.

is there anyone who can help me? if you need more information, let me know...
