PPTVIEW drops shading from PPT2007 Presentation

I am working with PowerPoint 2007, and when I create a presentation with
shaded edgephotos, and save it, and try to open it with PPTVIEW, I get the
message "This file requires the Compatibility Pack for the Office 2007 system
to view it's contents." Does this mean the PPT viewer program shipped with
Office 2007 can not even present files created with Office 2007?

If I use the Publish -> Package for CD option, it appears the presentation
format is changed to .PPT and all the beautiful shading features are now just
greyscale and look horrible.

Does anyone know if this is a feature, a bug, or a user training issue ?

The Viewer that shipped with PPT 2007 is for use with Package for CD.
Package for CD backsaves to 2003. So the Viewer that shipped with 2007 does
not open 2007 files, it only opens "backsaved" 2003-format files.

I know. Don't shoot the messenger.

You want to download and install the new 2007 Viewer. I'd actually just
recommend that anyone using the shipped 2007 Viewer or even the older 2003
Viewer just get this new one.
