PPT "Scraps"

H

Harold Noffke

From "Slide Sorter View" I dragged some individual
Powerpoint slides from several different .PPT files into a
TEMP folder. TEMP then contained a number of "Scrap
Objects", each of which contained one Powerpoint slide
(.PPT file). Then I tried to create a new Powerpoint file
with the Scrap Objects by dragging them into the Slide
Sorter View of a New (blank) Powerpoint file. NONE of the
Scraps could be read by Powerpoint, even though each scrap
contained one slide. To get all my .PPT slides back, is
there no simple way to reverse the drag & drop process
which created each slide's Scrap file in the first place?

Here is one option/suggestion. From the menu bar click on INSERT, then
select SLIDES FROM FILE. Locate your 'scrap' slides and import each of them
into current presentation.

Troy:

I tried your suggestion with Powerpoint 2000, and it did
not work for me. I got the same "Powerpoint cannot read
this file" message as before, when I dragged & dropped
Scraps. Maybe your approach will work with Powerpoint XP,
which I will have shortly. If not, maybe Microsoft can
fix this. I really should have checked first to be sure
Powerpoint could read Scraps, but it seemed so obvious
this should happen that created all my .PPT Scraps first.

I do thank you for your suggestion.

I've used scrap objects by just opening PPT and going to File/Open, I
believe.

Seems the problem here might be the drag and drop...

I tried your suggestion, and it too did not work. The
only way I can get the slide imbedded in each SLIDE.SSH
(scrap) file is to double-click that file to Open it. The
SCRAP HANDLER then opens the .SSH file, and invokes
PowerPoint to dispaly the slide. BUT ... PowerPoint can
do nothing with the slide except display it in Slide
View. None of the other PowerPoint views (Slide Show,
Slide Sorter, Sutline View, Normal Niew) will work when I
click on them. In Slide View, the "PPT slide embedded in
SLIDE.SHS" is editable, but must be "Saved As ..." to a
new PPT file before the slide regains its normal
PowerPoint properties.

I do appreciate your suggestion. Perhaps there's a bug in
my current PowerPoint 2000, due soon for upgrade to
PowerPoint XP.

Thanks.
Harold
