Can a PP presentation be saved to 97 from 2003? I have a file from a
classmate that used 2003 and it contains some slides that are blank. I have
Office 97. Is there an option in 2003 to save to a lower version? Thanks a
lot for the help.

2003 presentations should open in 97 OK. If there are new features though
they wont run so eg an exit animation may be masking the slide. (no exits in
97) I don't think saving as 97 / 95 will fix this. You can select "disable
new features" in 2003 (Tools > options >edit) to make sure pressys are
compatible

In most cases, there's no difference between files of PowerPoint 2003
and 97. Actually in PP 2003, there's "PowerPoint 97-2003 & 95
Presentation (*.ppt)" option. It means, PowerPoint 2003 is generally
compatible with 97.

But maybe some special elements in PowerPoint 2003 cannot be viewed in
97, such as external audio or video files. Because these files are
just linked outside the presentation. You must have these external
files in your computer with correct relative path. Your classmate
probably inserted rich media contents in some slides so you got
blank.

Alternatively, viewing a presentation with rich media has other
solutions.
For example, ask your classmate to convert PowerPoint to Flash movie
with all
media embedded. If you'd like to do so, you can try some conversion
tools such as Wondershare PPT2Flash (http:// www.sameshow.com/powerpoint-to-flash-pro.html),
Articulate Presenter (http://www.artiiculate.com) or FlashSpring Pro
(http:// www.falashspring.com).

Besides, converting PowerPoint to video files would be another easy
way but larger file size than Flash. You can choose the way you like
to solve this problem.

Have fun :)

One more option that I don't think was mentioned. If the problem has to do
with your classmate using newer features, you might be able to download the
free 2003 Viewer and use that to view the file. See:

David,

I downloaded the viewer as you suggested, and was able to view the
presentation. Until I install 2007, I shouldn't have a problem again with
version. Thanks so much.
