powerpoint text converter

Hi
I keep getting the following message when I try to open a powerpoint file
which contains narration:
Sorry, PowerPoint cannot read the outline from "Filename.ppt". No text
converter is installed for this file type.
I'm using 2003 and have tried downloading converters from Microsoft.com, but
it's not working. Any suggestions?

Usually when you get this message, it's because your file is completely
corrupt. I've never had any luck recovering a file when I receive this error
on it. Sorry to break the bad news.
