Powerpoint Security - Files not opening in Powerpoint 2000 or Mac

I have a presentation in Powerpoint 2003. I have added a password in order
to edit the file. However, when someone tries to open that file with either
Powerpoint on the MAC or Powerpoint 2000 the files says the format is not
valid. Any ideas on a good way to make the presentation viewable by the
masses, but not editable by the masses.
