Help, I need to do a powerpoint presentation with a laptop - laptop does not
have powerpoint. I downloaded powerpoint 2003 viewer and when playing the
powerpoint 2000 presentation, I dont' get any sounds. Does anyone know what
is wrong? Please help!

Moe than likely the sound files were not transferred to your laptop. You
cannot edit anything with the PowerPoint viewer

This should explain what's going on:

Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links break when I move or email
a presentation

To repair the problem, you'll need access to the sound files and a PC that has
PowerPoint installed, in most cases.

Thank you Steve, I'll try that! I'm trying to avoid purchasing powerpoint
for the laptop - work for non-profit. The soundfiles from regular powerpoint
2000 files do play, like the applause and whoosh, but soundfiles wav. that we
downloaded will not play. Hope this works, the presentation is about 70
slides long with music on just about every slide!

There are lots of little complexities to the way PPT deals with sounds.
One of them is that transition sounds and sounds accompanying action settings
(that'd be the once you mention above that it offers as choices) are always
embedded. That's why they work when some others don't. But the web page we
pointed you at will help explain how to sort out the other issues.

Incidentally, though ... depending on your office's PPT version and licensing, you
may be able legally to install a copy on both your desktop and laptop. That'd be
well worth looking into.
