PowerPoint Games category. Mohammad Ahmed Fikree is a creator for a series of
PowerPoint Games. His Fikree's Projects include PowerPoint Games such as
mouse maze, with awesome high quality graphics done using Adobe Photoshop,
adding more depths to the entire game.

Thanks for posting this. I HAVE BEEN WAITING YEARS to find someone who
really pushes the limit of PowerPoint.

For years I have asked around and searched for examples of PowerPoint design
that are unique. And for years I have been directed to websites that
showcase tips and tricks that seem 5 or 6 years old.

But now I finally get to see someone who shares the same vision as me when
it comes to utilizing PowerPoint. I love the fluidity of the game, and the
tricks he uses to maintain the illusion of a desktop application.

So far he has only used the drawing tools within PowerPoint itself (with a
few images used for backgrounds), but the mecahnics of the presentation are
amazing. If he has any graphic design experience, he should try replacing
his old graphics with raster images.

Still.. I'm glad to finally see a real example of PowerPoint being used to
its fullest.

TOHLZ.. if you have any more examples of PowerPoint being used in such a
way, could you please post a link to them? I am preferably lookinf for
designers who can animate like Fikree, BUT ALSO use high quality images in
their preentation. Do you know of any such examples? Or is the Friskee's
Project basically the best you've ever seen? If not.. please enlighten me!

With high quality graphics on almost every slides and embedded wav files, it
will definitely bloats up the file. Hence, you probably won't see many
examples around the internet since it takes up significant amount of space
and bandwidth. There are free games hosting such as filefront that allows you
to upload the file, but the download speed may not be stable.

Sorry... I didn't mean that there had to be high quality images on *every*
slide. Generally a presentation includes more text-based slides with a
sprinkle of graphics here and there... rather than graphically-intense slides
one after another.

I just meant that I would like to see an example of a presentation that used
high-qulity images *somewhere* in combination with advanced animation. Even
if it was only a 5-slide exerpt from a much larger preentation.

I design corporate presentations with high-quality images (not necessarily
*high definition* images) that are crisp at resolutions of 1024x768.

At 1024x768, a background image that fills the whole slide and saved as a
JPEG is less than 150 KB. I usually have 2-10 of these. Transparent PNG
images usually constitute the majority of the graphics on regular slides. As
far as sounds go, I use mp3's that loop. The total size of all sound files
usually never tops 2 MB.

In total, for a slide show of 100-200 slides, the result is usually a 10-20
MB powerpoint file. 30 MB at the extreme.

One of Fikree's presentations was 32 MB. That is large.. but is it really
so big considering today's broadband speeds? I had that file on my desktop
in two minutes. Even if the host of the file was running their server off of
a dial-up connection, I would have waited hours just to get my hands on it.
Besides.. if he dropped the sound files he would still have an amazing
showcase of powerpoint files at a fraction of the size.

I would love to see more examples of powerpoint pushing the limits. I don't
care what the file size is...

But considering that it has taken me YEARS to find ONE damn-good example of
advanced animation.. I am more inclined to believe these presentations simply
*DO NOT EXIST*. There should at least be some *samples* of such
presentations if they were really out there... but I've found nothing.

Just because you don't see exactly what you're looking for with images,
etc., don't discount what you do see, as the techniques demonstrated can be
used in a huge variety of ways.

And just so you know, dissing the samples on the above sites probably won't
win you any friends in this group. If you don't find them adequate, that's
fine, but I wouldn't suggest picking them apart here.

Aww.. do I seem so cranky that you expected me to come back yelling "this is
crap, crap, crap!" when I saw those sites?

I know that just about all of those sites belong to someone who frequently
posts on this board. I've visted them all for years (except
terberdesign.com, that one was new to me).

I understand that the examples from these sites have more to offer than just
design asthetics... they demonstrate a variety of techniques done in a
straightforward manner like what you would see in a good instruction manual.

So in that regard I have always found sites like awsomebackgrounds,
tlccreative and pptworkbench very useful. The presentations may have been
created years ago, but you can still learn a lot from them.

However, what sent me into rant in my last post was that whenever I ask for
powerpoint examples I'm always sent lnks to these same websites again and
again. Sure.. it looks like they are now cornerstones in the powerpoint
community... but I've known about them for a while and they *feel* old to me.

Think of the different levels of design you see in flash presentations.
Compare presentations from 3 years ago to those made today. When you search
for great flash examples, you just start tripping over all the links and
websites deidcated to showcasing media rich presentations.

Not so with powerpoint.

So I was really excited to see a presentation like Friskee's Projekts
available on the web. I was excited to think that maybe there was a whole
community of showcase websites that I was missing out on. And I was
desparate to squeeze a link or two out of someone.

I don't believe I'm "dissing" anyone by asking if there are new, modern,
*showcase quality* examples of powerpoint. It's just the way it goes...
something gets old and tired looking... and you start to look for something
new. Unfortunately I haven't found any new material in a long time and it
has become a little disheartening.

However, with terberdesign, I can say that this is a site approaching higher
levels of professionalism with their powerpoint design. I like it... thanks
for that link.

But I think I'll put on hold my quest for "the greatest powerpoint
presentation ever." It seems my standards are too high, and they boarder on
insulting other desingers ;P (don't worry.. I can't even design as good as
the examples I've been hoping to find...)

So I will start looking again the day that I can afford some examples of my
own to contribute.

Nah, not really cranky. Just that you seem to be looking for something more,
and I didn't want you to think that any of us consider any of those examples
the pinnacle of animation.
